Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran, a role he has held since 2019.
Born in 1960 in Golpayegan, Iran, Salami has been a key figure in shaping Iran’s military strategy and foreign policy, particularly in relation to Iran’s regional influence and its stance toward adversaries such as the United States and Israel.
Before his current position, he served as the deputy commander of the IRGC from 2009 to 2019 and previously commanded the IRGC Aerospace Force. Under his leadership, the IRGC has bolstered its involvement in various military and political conflicts, including supporting non-state armed groups across the Middle East and contributing to Iran's drone and missile programs.
He is also known for his aggressive rhetoric, particularly his predictions regarding the downfall of both Israel and Saudi Arabia, and he has emphasized Iran’s growing power in the region.
Internationally, he has faced sanctions from the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union for his involvement in Iran’s nuclear and weapons programs, as well as for his role in suppressing domestic protests.
